Profhilo – Everything you need to know

Profhilo is a revolutionary treatment that is perfect for rejuvenating tired-looking skin and restoring that glow. It is an injectable skin treatment which will leave you looking naturally refreshed. This is why it is becoming one of our most popular treatments. As winter approaches, we are seeing a significant number of patients asking for this treatment, as they seek that winter glow in time for the festive season.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo contains a highly-concentrated form of hyaluronic acid. Although, this is the same substance that is found in dermal fillers, profhilo acts differently once it is injected into the skin. It does not change the shape of the face or add volume. Profhilo has a runnier consistency than dermal fillers which means it spreads under the skin after it has been injected.

Then the magic happens! Profhilo is a bio-remodelling treatment, which means it to talks to the cells of the skin. It stimulates the skin to produce collagen and elastin. It also hydrates the skin, which gives you the ‘Profhilo glow’

What happens at the appointment?

All treatments start with a consultation. This allows us to assess your skin, discuss your suitability for the treatment and answer any questions and concerns that you may have. Once you decide to go ahead, photos of the areas to be treated are taken and a consent from is signed.

The skin is then cleaned with an anti-microbial solution. Profhilo is injected into 10 specific points across the face; 5 on each side (in front of the ear, on the side and front of the cheek, at the angle of the jaw and just below the lower lip). Profhilo is injected just underneath the skin, so it is normal to have a small bump around each injection site, similar to a small insect bite. These usually disappear within a couple of hours, as the Profhlio starts to spread underneath the skin. There is normally no downtime required after a treatment, although we usually do recommend that you avoid any intense exercise or activity for 24 hours after the treatment.

Does Profhilo hurt?

The injections can sting slightly. Numbing cream can be used but is usually avoided as it can make the appearance of bruising worse. The injections, each, only take a few seconds and we use distraction techniques in order to minimise any discomfort. The treatment certainly isn’t painful enough to deter any patients coming back for further treatments!

How long does it take to work?

Patients are usually recommended to have a course of two treatment sessions, one month apart. For some patients, we recommend a third course of treatment, especially if they have quite severe skin laxity. Full results become apparent 6-8 weeks after the second treatment, although many patients do report a significant improvement after the first treatment. It is advisable to have a maintenance treatment, once every 6 months, in order to keep your skin in exceptional condition.

Where can be Profhilo be injected?

The most common area for Profhilo to be injected is the face but it can be used in other areas, which can sometimes give away our age, such as the hands, neck, décolletage, arms and knees.

Who is Profhilo good for?

Profhilo is an excellent choice for both men and women, who have the following signs of ageing:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Saggy, loose skin
  • Dull, dehydrated looking skin
  • Sunken skin that is thin and lacks volume and plumpness

It is a perfect treatment if you are starting to show some signs of ageing but are not quite ready to consider having dermal fillers. It will leave you with refreshed, rehydrated skin. It is popular because it is guaranteed to give a natural looking result.

As with most injectable treatments, they are not suitable for anyone that is pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can Profhilo treatments go wrong?

No injectable treatments are completely risk free, but the risks with Profhilo are very low, especially when it is injected by a practitioner who is suitably qualified and experienced.

How much does Profhilo cost?

Profhilo currently costs £325 per session, or £625 for a course of 2 treatments.
