Weight Loss Service

Weight Loss Service Overview

We understand how difficult it can be to lose weight. There are a lot of diets out there, the majority of which involve some form of calorie counting. These tend to only work in the short-term as they are not sustainable and inevitably, they just make people miserable. Our relationship with food is so much more complex than a calculation of calories in and calories out and this is why these diets do not work for the majority of people. We are proud to be able to offer an alternative weight loss solution.

Semaglutide (also known as Ozempic®) is a drug which has been used for many years to treat diabetes and can be prescribed privately to aid weight loss.

It is a once weekly injection, that slows emptying of the stomach, making patients feel fuller for longer and reducing the craving for food. This leads to weight loss.

What is Ozempic?

Ozempic® is a medication that has been used for Diabetes but studies showed it was an effective weight loss agent.

Who is it for?

Ozempic® can be prescribed to anyone with a BMI over 30 or anyone with a BMI over 27 with a weight related medical condition. Blood tests are available in case you are worried about any weight related medical conditions.

Are there any side effects?

The majority of patients do not experience any side effects. A minority of patients may experience some side effects on starting the medication. These usually include nausea, occasional vomiting and constipation but usually pass within a short amount of time. It is rare that patients have to stop the medication due to side effects.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

This depends on a variety of factors including calorie intake, lifestyle and exercise regime. However, some studies have shown that 70% of patients on Ozempic® were able to lose 10% of their body weight. Only 12% of patients were able to manage this amount of weight loss through diet and exercise alone.

I really don’t like the thought of injections. Is there an alternative?

The needles used with Ozempic® are extremely fine. However, if you really do not like the thought of a weekly injection, we can now prescribe a daily tablet, called Rybelsus®, which contains the same ingredient as Ozempic® and works in the same way.
